(Minghui.org) A Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province resident serving a six-year term for practicing Falun Gong has been subjected to various forms of abuse and torture for upholding her faith.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Tian Yuqin, 61, was arrested with seven other Falun Gong practitioners on June 25, 2018 for reading Falun Gong books together. All of the practitioners were in their 60s and 70s. They were sentenced to terms between one and ten years and fined between 5,000 and 30,000 yuan in April 2019 by the Yingze District Court.
Ms. Tian was transferred to the Shanxi Women’s Prison in June 2019 and assigned to the No. 9 Cell in the Fifth Ward.
Because Ms. Tian refused to renounce Falun Gong, inmate Yang Haiying slapped her in the face, spat on her face and verbally abused her. While all other inmates were issued a basin for face washing and a food container, Yang forced Ms. Tian to use a basin that had been used to cover the portable toilet, and to use a used bedpan as her rice bowl.
Yang also deceived Ms. Tian into buying two stacks of toilet paper for her, in exchange for a thicker comforter. Instead of getting a new comforter to her, Yang found two used ones and gave them to Ms. Tian.
When an inmate named Zhang Hongxia broke Ms. Tian’s thermos bottle, she used Ms. Tian’s money to buy a new one for her.
Besides these abuses, the inmates also blocked Ms. Tian from talking to others and restricted her restroom use, laundry and phone calls with her family.
