(Minghui.org) A Beijing resident was sentenced to a four-year prison term on December 26, 2020 for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhang Mujie, 64, was arrested early on the morning of November 19, 2019 by an officer who broke into her home. The police confiscated many of her Falun Gong informational materials, including 90 calendars and some magazines. She was held at the Daxing Detention Center.
The Daxing District Court later held a secret trial for Ms. Zhang without informing her family. They only recently learned about her sentencing, two months after she had been sentenced. It was reported that she has submitted an appeal herself.
Prior to her latest persecution, Ms. Zhang was arrested on March 25, 2015, after a surveillance camera caught her distributing Falun Gong materials. Her computer and Falun Gong books were confiscated.
She was first held at the Xicheng District Detention Center, and then transferred to the Xicheng Brainwashing Center on April 25, 2015. During her detention, her lawyer frequented the police station to seek justice for her. A month later, the police dropped her case and she was released.
On July 22, 2015, Ms. Zhang was arrested again after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong at a bus station. Another practitioner who went with her, Ms. Zhang Muzhen, was also arrested. The police ransacked their homes and confiscated their Falun Gong items. The police told their families that they would be held at the Haidian Detention Center for 15 days, but they didn’t release the practitioners until August 6.
