(Minghui.org) A Wuhan City, Hubei Province resident was sentenced to four years for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Liu Mulan, 56, was arrested at home with her daughter Ms. Liu Jing on October 16, 2019. They were held at the Wuhan City No.1 Detention Center. Although Ms. Liu Jing was released on bail on November 22, Ms. Liu Mulan remained in custody and had her arrest approved on the same day. It’s reported that guards at the Wuhan City No.1 Detention Center mixed toxic drugs into her food.
Ms. Liu Mulan’s family confirmed that her case had been moved to the Hanyang Court on June 5, 2020, but the court refused to provide any information about her. Her family learned in late January 2021 that she had been sentenced to four years with a 4,000-yuan fine.
Life Turned Around by Practicing Falun Gong
Ms. Liu took up Falun Gong when her life was at rock bottom. Her husband was addicted to gambling. He not only squandered all of the family’s savings but also racked up hundreds of thousands of yuan of debt. When he lost money, he beat Ms. Liu at home.
Feeling hopeless about her life, Ms. Liu tried to commit suicide once but didn't succeed. Her neighbor introduced Falun Gong to her, and she became a completely different person after reading Zhuan Falun, the main book of Falun Gong. She was much happier and was able to let go of her resentment towards her husband. With her support and encouragement, her husband quit gambling and started a business in Guangzhou City, Guangzhou Province. They soon paid off the debts and started a new life.
Prison Sentence and Involuntary Drug Administration
While working in Guangzhou City, however, Ms. Liu was arrested in June 2011 and sentenced to 3.5 years in Guangdong Province Women’s Prison. The prison guards injected her with toxic drugs and also mixed the drugs into her food. A few months later, she became delirious and had hallucinations. Her vision was blurred. Her feet were swollen. She was emaciated and unable to talk clearly.
During her imprisonment, the police forced all the employees in their family factory to sign statements to denounce Falun Gong. Her husband was under tremendous pressure and struggled to keep the company running. He became depressed and started gambling again.
