Former Industry and Commerce Bureau Director Sentenced to Seven Years for Practicing Falun Gong
(Minghui.org) Mr. Wang Tiezhuang, former director of the Industry and Commerce Bureau in Nanyang City, Henan Province, was among the 14 locals sentenced to prison in March 2021 for practicing Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
The 14 practitioners were targeted in a mass arrest of 160 locals between August 30 and 31, 2019. After spending one and a half years in custody, they were sentenced to 2-9 years by the Wancheng District Court. Mr. Wang was given seven years and fined 20,000 yuan.
Past Persecution
After the communist regime ordered the persecution in 1999, Mr. Wang went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong in 2000, only to be arrested and taken back to Nanyang. Because he refused to renounce his faith, the police gave him three years at the Henan Province No.3 Forced Labor Camp.
The labor camp guards tortured him by tying him up tightly. Unable to bear the torture, he was forced to write a renouncement statement against his will. He soon regretted signing the statement and declared it to be void. Because of his speaking out for other practitioners persecuted to death at the labor camp, the authorities extended his term by one year.
Torture reenactment: tying up
One night in March 2004, the guards handcuffed Mr. Wang and Mr. Yue Caiyun (who passed away in February 2021 while serving time in a prison in Zhejiang Province) and tortured them in a separate room. The details of the torture remained to be investigated.
The guards held a criticizing session against Mr. Wang in 2004. They tied up his arms, pulled them up behind his back and suddenly loosened it, causing him to scream in excruciating pain.
