(Minghui.org) A 78-year-old woman in Wuhan City, Hubei Province was arrested and roughed up by the police for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Wang Shuhui and her husband stayed at their daughter’s home in downtown Wuhan so her husband could receive medical treatment for his severe heart condition, kidney failure, and pulmonary edema at a nearby hospital.
Five strong-build officers, two in police uniforms, broke into her daughter’s home at 8:00 p.m. on May 13, 2021. They claimed to be from the Zhangjiawan Police Station. Two of them went to Ms. Wang’s bedroom and held her. They then began to search every room.
The police confiscated Ms. Wang’s Falun Gong books, photo of Falun Gong’s founder, speaker, projector, a hard drive, her cellphone, and her personal spending book. The raid deeply terrified her husband, who was still very weak after being recently discharged from the hospital. He almost took a fall, but was luckily held by his family.
Despite strong protests from the family, the police forcibly dragged Ms. Wang into the police car and took her to the police station. Ms. Wang refused to cooperate with the interrogation and tried to persuade the police not to participate in the persecution. One officer shouted at her and said he wasn’t afraid of any consequences (for doing evil).
Two officers carried Ms. Wang to a camera. They made four attempts, but nonetheless unable to take her photo. They then held her middle finger and collected a blood sample. Afterwards, they carried her to another room and took her photo with the items confiscated from her. When she refused to sign the confiscation list, the police held her body and hand, and forcibly pressed her fingerprint on it.
Ms. Wang was taken back home by her daughter at around 2:00 a.m. Her armpits were still bruised two weeks later due to the police violence.
Ms. Wang took up Falun Gong in 1997 and she has been enjoying good health for the past 20 years. With the onset of the persecution in 1999, she went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong in January 2000 and was arrested at Tiananmen Square. The police kept her handcuffed and took her back to Jiangxi District in suburban Wuhan.
During another arrest, her husband was pushed to the ground while trying to stop the police from arresting her. After the police forcibly took her away, he was left on the ground, groaning in pain. The fall caused him to suffer lasting pain in his back and legs.
