(Minghui.org) Two Junan County, Shandong Province residents were to face trial on July 12, 2021 for their faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Wang Xizhen, 67, and Ms. Zhang Minghua, 73, were followed by Hua Ziliang, the village security director, on March 17, 2020, when they went out and talked to people about Falun Gong in a park.
The two women were stopped by Ming Shudong, head of Chengbei Police Station, when they went out again on March 24. The police arrested them, searched their homes and confiscated Falun Gong books and materials.
The practitioners had their photos and blood samples taken at the police station. They were released seven days later, after being forced to sign statements to renounce Falun Gong.
The police took the practitioners into custody again on May 21 and released them on bail on May 28.
Ms. Wang and Ms. Zhang were summoned to the Chengbei Police Station several times in early 2021 to answer questions.
On May 26, five days after the police submitted their case to the Junan County Procuratorate, the practitioners were summoned by the prosecutor and asked whether they still distributed Falun Gong materials. They were also forced to sign many documents related to their case.
The prosecutor forwarded their case to the Linshu County Procuratorate on June 24. Prosecutor Li Zhengshi was assigned to handle their case.
The two practitioners were summoned by the Junan County Procuratorate again on July 1 and forced to sign more documents. The prosecutor issued a 5,000-yuan fine to each of them and threatened to sentence them to prison if they continued to practice Falun Gong.
Prosecutor Li of the Linshu County Procuratorate summoned the practitioners on July 5 and indicted them shortly after. They were informed by the Linshu County Court on July 7 that they were scheduled to appear in court on July 12.
