(Minghui.org) A woman and her parents in Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province were sentenced to prison in September 2020 for practicing Falun Gong, and their appeal was rejected in early 2021.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhou Na, her father Mr. Zhou Shaoshan, and her mother Ms. Gao Jiping were seized in a group arrest of local Falun Gong practitioners on September 7, 2019. They were indicted by the Wanbolin District Procuratorate on January 7, 2020, and sentenced by the Wanbolin District Court on September 23, 2020. Both Mr. Zhou and Ms. Gao were sentenced to three years in prison with a 5,000-yuan fine. Ms. Zhou was given two years and fined 3,000 yuan.
All three appealed with the Taiyuan City Intermediate Court. The judge ruled to uphold the sentences in early 2021.
On March 30, 2021, Mr. Zhou, a retiree of the Shanxi Province Association for Science and Technology, in his 60s, was transferred to the Jinzhong Prison. Ms. Gao, who was released earlier due to her health condition, was ordered to be taken back into custody in late April 2021. But she failed the physical examination and was rejected admission to the local detention center. Their daughter, Ms. Zhou, was ordered to serve time at Gujiao Detention Center.
