(Minghui.org) Two Puyang City, Henan Province residents were sentenced to prison for their faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Wu Baolan was arrested on the afternoon of February 28, 2020, after being reported by a security officer for distributing Falun Gong informational materials in a residential area. On the same day, officers of the Daqinglu Police Station also arrested Ms. Zhang Jinrong and ransacked her home. It’s not clear what triggered Ms. Zhang’s arrest.
Although the police soon released both women, they harassed them a few more times afterwards.
The Hualong District Court ordered to have Ms. Wu taken back into custody on January 19, 2021, about one and a half months before the Hualong District Procuratorate indicted the two practitioners on March 1. Ms. Wu was held at the Puyang City Detention Center.
Both practitioners were tried by the Hualong District Court on April 14. The judge sentenced Ms. Zhang to five years with a 10,000 yuan fine and Ms. Wu to one year with a 1,000 yuan fine on May 6.
The two practitioners’ appeals against the sentences were rejected.
