(Minghui.org) After a woman in Jiaoling County, Guangdong Province, was sentenced to five years in prison for her faith in Falun Gong, she appealed to an intermediate court. The higher court rejected her appeal.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zeng Xiaoli, 52, was arrested at home on the evening of July 16, 2020. Her Falun Gong books, photo of Falun Gong’s founder, and Falun Gong materials were confiscated. The police discovered that she had put up Falun Gong posters around town in April 2019.
Ms. Zeng was sentenced to five years and fined 50,000 yuan by the Mei County District Court. She appealed her sentence to the Meizhou City Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold the original verdict in March 2021.
This was the second time that Ms. Zeng has been sentenced for her faith. She was previously arrested on November 22, 2008, and sentenced to five years by the Jiaoling County Court. She was taken to the Guangdong Province Women’s Prison.
Another Jiaoling County practitioner, Ms. Xu Qiuzhen, is facing trial in the Mei County District Court in September 2021. Ms. Xu was arrested at home on April 28, 2021, by officers with the Mei County Domestic Security Office. Her Falun Gong books, photo of Falun Gong’s founder, two printers, informational materials, and 2,000 yuan in cash were confiscated. She is being held in the Xingning City Detention Center.
