(Minghui.org) A Yishui County, Shandong Province resident is scheduled to be tried in nearby Jiangsu Province on September 17, 2021, for distributing information to help people access the uncensored information about the Chinese regime’s persecution of his faith in Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. Due to strict information censorship and cover-ups of the persecution in China, Falun Gong practitioners outside of China developed software to circumvent the Internet censorship, and their counterparts in China distributed the software to enable the general public to have access to free information online.
Mr. Zhang Xizheng went to Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province on a business trip in January 2021. The Chengbei Police Station spotted him distributing information cards about how to break the Internet censorship in China on the evening of January 24 through surveillance cameras. The police followed him for a day and arrested him on January 25. The police claimed that they recorded him distributing 99 information cards and they confiscated 80 of them from his person upon his arrest. Another 1,200 cards were confiscated from his personal vehicle.
The Yancheng police traveled nearly 250 miles on January 26 and searched Mr. Zhang’s home in Yishui County. Another several hundred information cards on how to break the Internet censorship were confiscated. His computer and some other personal belongings were taken away as well. Meanwhile, the Yancheng police visited the Yishui County Procuratorate and obtained records of past incarceration and labor camp terms that Mr. Zhang had served for practicing Falun Gong. They threatened to give him a heavy term this time.
Mr. Zhang was initially scheduled to appear in Dafeng District Court in Yancheng on July 7, 2021. After prosecutors Wang Wei and Hu Shunling found out that his lawyer was entering a not guilty plea for him and that the court had allowed several of his family members to attend the hearing, they called for the judge to postpone the hearing, with the excuse that they didn’t have all the documents ready.
Due to a typhoon, the rescheduled hearing on July 27 was cancelled again and moved to September 17.
