In February of 1998, my father became seriously ill and was hospitalized. My brothers took turns taking care of him at his sick bed. My elder brother was a Falun Dafa cultivator. Whenever this brother was with our father, father would become better, and when my elder brother was not around, father would turn worse. We all felt that this was a miracle and realized that Falun Dafa must be a high-level cultivation system. We all wanted to become cultivators of Falun Dafa.
After I attained the Fa, I kept reading the great law of the universe Zhuan Falun. When my wife noticed this, she started to read the book too. She said this book is so good and it teaches people to become better people, return to their true selves, and become a Buddha. She wanted to cultivate too. Since then all of our prior illnesses have disappeared. Our son, who is now 6, has never been ill nor taken any medication for the two years we have been cultivating.
To be a true cultivator in Falun Dafa, one has to: change himself from deep within his heart according to the ultimate characteristics of the universeTruthfulness, Benevolence, and Forbearance, give up attachments of human desires and pursuits, get rid of everyday peoples' desires and all bad thoughts, be merciful with people, be able to endure hardships caused by other people, not fight back, and to maintain a high moral standard. A cultivation system as good as this one is beneficial to the nation and does absolutely no harm. However in July 1999, the Chinese government abruptly announced a ban on Falun Dafa with two senseless policies: party members and public service employees were disallowed to practice Falun Dafa. Under this pressure, I was forced to quit both my party membership and my job. In particular the leadership at my wife's work place said, "If you practice Falun Dafa, the whole work organization will not receive the civilization award. If you want to work, you have to stop practicing Falun Dafa". In order to continue her cultivation, she quit her job. Suddenly our family no longer had an income.
Everyone knows that cultivating in Falun Dafa is an activity that is freely chosen by each individual. The assistance centers provide services voluntarily to the public, do not charge practitioners even one cent, do not keep money or substantial materials, and do not keep a record of practitioners names. If one wants to come, he comes; if one wants to leave, he leaves. Everyone cultivates according to the teachings of Falun Dafa and there is no formal organization. We take a path of no visible form. Yet on Oct 28, 1999, The People's Daily newspaper published an article groundlessly labelling Falun Dafa an "evil cult".
In order to be responsible to the nation and its people, and to tell the truth to the government, our family of three went to the National Appeal Bureau in Beijing to exercise our basic human right of telling the truth. However, we were detained at the Appeal Bureau and not allowed to leave until the public security representatives from each province took us to their local office in Beijing, and kept us detained there until our local police units escorted us back home, where we were again detained.
Our Teacher is so benevolent and cares about his disciples during every minute of the day. On the morning of the sixth day I was called again for interrogation. On the way to the rest room, I felt a stream of warm energy shooting up to my head and I fell to the ground and lost consciousness. When I stood up from the ground, I realized that Teacher was helping me. No surprise, when they called in a doctor to check my blood pressure it measured 140/180. They released me a few hours later. When I walked out of the detention station I felt very well.
Just before New Year's Eve, we were about to visit our relatives and so we informed our old work units of our intention. This brought disastrous consequences. First, the police station called me in and locked me up. My wife went to the work unit and was intentionally misled to the police station where she was detained for 15 days. On the first night my wife was detained, three policemen came to my home intending to take away the Teacher's portrait. I refused to open the door and they left. Next morning, six policemen arrived in a crazy mood and with a search warrant in hand, yelled like gangsters. They broke into my home, searched everywhere, and confiscated the portrait of the greatest Teacher and my Falun Dafa books. That was the biggest blow to me in my life.
While my wife was detained, the leadership in my work unit said to me "You come back to work. We don't push you out to the society, we want to educate you". So I went back to work. Then I realized that everything had changed. I no longer had my old job, no exact job assignment, and I was followed every time I stepped out of my office door. When the "Three Emphases Education" started in April, I was named and singled-out for criticism in every meetingjust like in the Cultural Revolution.
In early July, after multiple hardships, the leadership in the work unit said: "The central government recently ordered by decree, that we shall step up the crack down on Falun Dafa practitioners who go to appeal. All work units shall work dead hard. Whenever you leave the city limits, we will arrest you and send you to a labor camp. At this moment, "Evil is being eradicated" but the vile individuals are continuing to commit evil actions in human society. That is why my family stepped forward to tell the truth of Falun Dafa to the people, to validate the Fa and to let more and more learn about and receive the benefits of Falun Dafa.
