(Minghui.org) Mr. Chen Baohan is a Falun Gong practitioner from Hanzhong City in Shaanxi Province. He was arrested by officers from the Domestic Security Division of the Hantai District in Hanzhong City, when he went to request to be reinstated at work on September 10, 2012. He was illegally sentenced to 18 months of forced labor on September 26, 2012, and sent to the Guozhen Forced Labor Camp in Baoji City.
Mr. Chen was finally released on December 28, 2013, months after the announcement that the labor camp system was being shut down in China, and most labor camps had already disbanded.
Mr. Chen has been detained in a labor camp twice before, and subjected to persecution. He was illegally discharged from work for his belief.
Criminal Inmates Instigated to Persecute Practitioners
Practitioners held at the Guozhen Forced Labor Camp clarified the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong to the guards, but they continued to ignore the facts, and persecute practitioners. They deprived practitioners of their basic rights that included, not allowing them to have visitors, to buy necessities in the labor camp, or make a phone call.
Immediately after arriving at the labor camp, criminal inmates in the so-called “public management team” punched Mr. Chen, while guard Gao Weijie turned a blind eye to it.
Later that day, Mr. Chen was beaten by more than five inmates including group leader Che Xiaowen, and inmate Sun Yapeng. His chest was in pain for several days.
Mr. Chen was forced to make wine boxes in the labor camp. Once, when he didn't work fast enough, he was hit and kicked. As a result, he suffered from pain in his ribs for a couple of days.
One day, Mr. Chen’s elderly relative tried to visit him at the labor camp, but was denied. He had brought 500 yuan in cash for Mr. Chen.
Che Xiaowen wanted to borrow the money, but Mr. Chen refused. Che and other inmates then forcefully took practitioners personal items including food, and gave the stolen items to the guards to gain favors.
Inmates in the public management team were bullies in the labor camp. They often threatened practitioners to comply with their orders by forcing them to do foot drills, trainings, slave labor, and number counting. They also exchanged with each other the methods used to steal practitioners things, and compared the stolen items.
Once, when Mr. Chen asked the guards about his release, they said that he would only be released if he wrote guarantee statements to stop practicing. Furthermore, they didn't decide his release.
After the labor camp system in China was shut down, Mr. Chen’s family went to the Hanzhong City 610 Office to request his release. However, the police officers lied to the family that the 610 Office wasn't in charge of making that kind of decision.
Several months later, the police from Mr. Chen’s community informed his family that director Yan of the 610 Office said Mr. Chen would be released on December 28, 2013, when the remaining forced labor terms were terminated.
