(Minghui.org) A police officer, in his fifties, from a local police station knocked at my door. He looked apologetic when I opened the door. He said, “I am a new police officer in charge of this area and am trying to get to know the people on my beat.” I thought that he was beating around the bush.
After some small talk, he said, “You look 70 years old, but appear very healthy. Is it because you practice Falun Gong? It appears that Falun Gong is really good.” I felt that he was sincere and seemed to know a little about the practice.
I generally held a negative view of police officers. I thought them to be agents of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), with nothing but bad intentions, especially when it came to Falun Gong practitioners. I hated them and thought that they were bad in general.
I realized that my thoughts were an attachment derived from my human notions. I suddenly remembered what Master said, “I told you a long time ago that a Dafa [Falun Gong] disciple, or a cultivator, has no enemies. The only thing you have a role in is saving people. ” (“Teaching the Fa in the City of Chicago”) I understood that my thought was not right and not based on the principles of Falun Dafa. Even police officers are to be saved.
As soon as I held this benevolent thought, the field turned very peaceful. The policeman asked, “I know practitioners are good people. Can you give me some examples so that I can explain it to other people?” I said, “You must know that practitioners do not lie.” He confirmed that he was aware of that.
I said, “I will give you two examples. The following happened 10 years ago. My wife gave me five yuan and asked me to buy a watermelon. The merchant picked the watermelon and it cost three yuan. He asked me to taste it, and it tasted bad. So, I told him to throw it into a trash can. Then I left.”
The police officer asked if I asked my money back and I said,“No.” He asked “Why?” I said, this was the difference between a practitioner and an ordinary person. The founder of Falun Gong told us, “Whenever you encounter a problem, you should first consider whether others can put up with this matter or if it will hurt anyone.” (Zhuan Falun). I then told him that it was not easy for these merchants to make a living. The watermelon was sold for three yuan and it might have cost him two yuan. I did not want him to lose two yuan. The police officer was touched after he heard my explanation.
My wife gave me five yuan a few days later to buy another watermelon. I went to the same merchant's booth. He had just given a watermelon to a young lady. He asked her if she wanted to taste it and she said yes. But, the melon split into two pieces when he tried to cut a piece. The lady changed her mind before tasting it and refused to buy it. She finally agreed to taste it and said that it was not sweet. Making the long story short, both of them got angry and they had an argument. Many people surrounded them. I wanted them to keep peace and bought the watermelon. They stopped fighting.
The police officer realized my intention immediately and said, “The bystanders wanted to see what was going on, while you solved the problem immediately.”
Then I told him, “There are over ten million practitioners. What are they doing? They want to live by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. They want to be good people and let go of bad attachments, such as wanting to fight, showing off and pursuing fame and profit.”
I continued, “People who do good will not show off. There are many conflicts that were resolved by practitioners, but no one speaks about them. It is known that Falun Gong plays an important role in improving one's moral virtue.”
I then told him, “The persecution of Falun Gong is in reality a disaster that is destroying our nation's virtue. People gamble, take drugs, and officials have become greedy and seek profit.”
The policeman nearly broke into tears. He was speechless and did not know what to say or do.
