(Minghui.org) Ms. Guan Xiumei has been held at the Shenyang City No. 1 Detention Center since her arrest. She has had severe head pain since the beginning of July, which has caused her to faint frequently. She was diagnosed with an insufficient blood supply to her head. She is now unable to look after herself without help from others.
The guards claimed that she would be released if she renounced Falun Gong, which she refused to do.
Ms. Guan, 52, was arrested at home on April 24, 2014. Her son, Ms. Ding Lihua, Mr. Zhang Hongtao, and Mr. Li Zhendong were also arrested at the same time. Police ransacked Ms. Guan's home and confiscated 14,000 yuan in cash and many personal belongings.
Ms. Ding's ribs were broken when police kicked her during her arrest. Mr. Zhang Hongtao was brutally beaten. They were taken to the Wusong Police Station and held in the basement.
Ms. Guan's son was handcuffed and held in a small cell. He was threatened during a lengthy interrogation. He became delirious after he was released, and was frightened to sleep when it is dark.
Ms. Guan Xiumei is a retired worker from the Shenyang Materials and Equipment Administration Bureau. She started practicing Falun Gong in 2006. She lived by the Falun Gong principles, Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance.
She has been harassed by local police for being a Falun Gong practitioner. One of her neighbors said: “Practicing Falun Gong does not violate the law. So why arrest her?”
