(Minghui.org) Ms. Ge Yingjie is serving a 7-year term at Liaoning Women's Prison for her faith in Falun Gong. The prison guards threatened to arrest her mother when they found out the latter had complained about her daughter being abused in custody.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Ge, a resident of Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province, was arrested on June 16, 2017 for putting up information about Falun Gong and later sentenced to seven years. She was sent to the ninth ward at Liaoning Women's Prison in September 2018.
The prison guards are restricting her purchase of daily necessities, in an attempt to pressure her to give up her faith. In the past year, she was only allowed to buy five rolls of toilet paper and three small packs of sanitary napkins.
All of the detainees at the ninth ward are forced to work at a clothing factory, from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day. In order to extend the working time, the guards don't allow them to wash their dishes. The guards also beat those who couldn't finish their quota in time.
An inmate named Yu Haiyan beat Ms. Ge by order from the prison guards at around 7:30 p.m. on August 1, 2019. Two prison guards talked to Ms. Ge on the next day and threatened her: “We've received a letter from your mom, who complained about how you are mistreated here. You should let your mom know that if she appeals for you, we will arrest her as well. The Chinese government doesn't allow any appeals right now.”
