(Minghui.org) A man in his 70s was given three years in prison without due process for not renouncing his faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Gao Guangsi, 74, a retired military doctor in Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province, was arrested in July 2017 and then released on bail due to medical reasons.
A judge from Xuanwu District Court visited him at home in September 2017 and told him that he had already been sentenced. The judge said he could grant medical parole to Mr. Gao to free him from serving time in prison, on the condition that he wrote a statement to renounce Falun Gong.
Mr. Gao didn’t respond to the judge. He was sent to Suzhou Prison that afternoon.
Prior to his latest imprisonment, Mr. Gao has been repeatedly arrested and harassed by the authorities and his supervisor in the military for upholding his faith.
He was arrested and held in a brainwashing center in September 2016 prior to the G20 Hangzhou Summit, as the authorities attempted to prevent Falun Gong practitioners from appealing for their faith during the major event.
