(Minghui.org) After a prison in Liaoning Province refused to admit an 83-year-old man due to his health, the authorities are still keeping him in custody and refuse to release him.
Mr. Han Yuntai of Gaizhou City, Liaoning Province, was arrested at home at around 9 p.m. on October 30, 2020. He was targeted for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Without informing his family, the Gaizhou Court secretly sentenced Mr. Han to three years with a 5,000-yuan fine on November 17.
After finding out about his sentence, Mr. Han’s family hired a lawyer for him. But when the lawyer went to the Gaizhou City Detention Center to visit him on December 3, the guards denied his request for a meeting.
Mr. Han was taken to Nanguanling Prison in Dalian City in early March 2021, but he was denied admission due to his advanced age and health. Instead of releasing Mr. Han, the authorities held him in the Dashiqiao Detention Center for two weeks before transporting him back to the Gaizhou City Detention Center, where he has been held ever since.
Mr. Han’s family is demanding his immediate release.
Prior to his latest arrest, Mr. Han was arrested on January 24, 2016, and later released on bail.
