(Minghui.org) An English teacher has been abused in detention for upholding her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Wang Lilin, a graduate of Harbin Institute of Technology in Heilongjiang Province, has been living in Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, for the past decade. She held many positions in architectural design, toy sales, and English training. She began to practice Falun Gong in 2009 and many of her ailments soon disappeared.
After the police found out about her practicing Falun Gong, they arrested her on May 24, 2016. She was later sentenced to 1.5 years. The English training institute she started was forced to close during her imprisonment.
Starting in 2019, the police began to harass Ms. Wang again. She was frequently followed and searched and had her photo taken. The landlord of the venue she rented to host English training classes was forced to terminate her lease, resulting in a loss of several thousand yuan. The police also tried to force the landlord of her apartment to evict her.
Ms. Wang was arrested again on December 8, 2020, and put in criminal detention. She was first held at the Baoan Detention Center and then transferred to the Nanshan District Detention Center.
Because the Nanshan District Detention Center is at 200% capacity, many detainees were forced to sleep on the floor. Ms. Wang was given the space just outside the restroom. The humidity has caused her right knee to swell and she also has joint pain all over her body.
Ms. Wang reported this to the guards on March 13, but she received no response. On March 19, several guards pushed her down when she still refused to renounce her faith. One guard stabbed her mouth with a walky-talky and cuffed her hands and feet. The chains weren’t removed until March 23.
Another practitioner in the detention center, Ms. Xue Aimei, was also forced to wear handcuffs and shackles for not renouncing Falun Gong.
